Global accounting and advisory firm BDO has recruited three new partners to its east coast offices.
The professional services firm has welcomed Conor McGarrity as a partner in Brisbane to lead its integrity & forensic reviews and program evaluation function, with a focus on the public sector.
The former Risk Insights director follows recent partnership recruits James Momsen and Luke Andrews in crossing to the network, the latter from Deloitte. McGarrity and Momsen meanwhile share a background at KPMG.
Conor McGarrity brings more than two decades worth of experience to BDO in strategy, risk, performance improvement and independent governance reviews, having previously served as a director in the Queensland Audit Office and as a principal advisor with the state’s Crime and Corruption Commission – roles which were separated by a four-year stint at KPMG. In 2017, he co-founded assurance consultancy Risk Insights.
A specialist in fraud, misconduct, and compliance-related matters, McGarrity has over the course of his career worked with organisations of various sizes across a range of industries to improve their strategic performance and organisational integrity through better governance and risk management, with state and national governments, regulators, financial institutions and large non-profits among his past clientele.
James Momsen joins BDO as a corporate tax partner in Sydney, crossing after two years as a managing director with boutique M&A and funds management tax advisory GreenMount. Prior to that, Momson, who started out as an accountant at Mazars, was a partner at MinterEllison, in what was his second four-year stint at the law firm – with seven years spent at KPMG in Australia and US in between.
“James brings extensive specialist taxation experience in corporate M&A and private equity transactions, further strengthening our corporate tax offering,” stated BDO’s NSW managing partner Grant Saxon. “James is known for providing a steady hand while guiding clients through a transaction, working closely and collaboratively with a range of other legal and commercial advisers to deliver a smooth and successful outcome.”
Rounding out the recent east coast partnership appointments, Luke Andrews has joined BDO’s restructuring & turnaround team out of Melbourne, having gained four years of early career experience at segment specialist KordaMentha.
Following that up with a half decade in strategic business services at NAB, Andrews has spent the past seven and a half years between PwC and Deloitte, joining the former upon its acquisition of PPB Advisory in 2018.
